About the Graduate School of Advanced Interdisciplinary Science
The Graduate School of Advanced Interdisciplinary Science brings together Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology 's strengths in education and research in the fields of food and environment, resources and energy, and life sciences (health and welfare), with education and research capabilities in the fields of information, digital, AI, mathematics, and data science. By doing so, we will cultivate global high-level professionals who can work on the creation of the next generation of information and digital future society by developing new cross-disciplinary fields to solve social issues from the perspective of collaboration between agriculture and engineering.
Four Master's Degree Courses
Predictive Informatics Course
Predictive Informatics Course is engaged in the development of information collection using innovative measurement and digital technologies, advanced information processing, analysis, and management based on the latest AI, mathematical and data science methods, and prediction technology based on diverse information. In addition, by conducting practical education and research in collaboration with various organizations in Japan and overseas, we aim to solve social issues and create new knowledge, such as food and agriculture, mobility, energy, health, and environment.
Natural Resources and Energy Science Course
This program aims to foster students' abilities to promote data-driven research and development in order to develop new functional substances and materials, power generation and storage devices, and energy-saving technologies as well as to integrate them into the energy systems by learning and utilizing AI, mathematics, and data science methods. Students will acquire advanced technologies and related special knowledge in the field of resource and energy science, which is deeply related to a wide range of fields such as chemistry, physics, mechanics, and electricity, and contribute to solving resource and energy problems, considering global environment and sustainability.
Health and Wellness Science Course
Students will acquire advanced technologies and related special knowledge in areas such as biomedical sensing, robotics, electronics, computing, and cognitive science, which are the foundations of human and bioengineering and healthcare technologies that support health and welfare. They will also engage in dynamic interdisciplinary research using AI, mathematics, and data science methods, collaborating with researchers and experts in a wide range of fields, in order to create new technological knowledge that will lead to the promotion of healthy lives and welfare for all people, and to apply it to solving global health issues.
Food and Environmental Science Course
In order to build a sustainable society, students will acquire advanced technologies and related specialist knowledge in fields such as soil science, botany, entomology, environmental chemistry, and materials chemistry that contribute to environmentally friendly food production and resource circulation, as well as the ability to pioneer new fields through collaboration with AI, mathematics, and data science methods. Based on their deepened specialist knowledge and comprehensive interdisciplinary knowledge, the program cultivates talent who will create concepts and technologies that support rich food and the environment, and ultimately people's sense of purpose in life, and contribute to local and international communities.
List of Laboratories and Faculty Members
The faculty members of the Department of Advanced Interdisciplinary Science in the Graduate School of the University consists of those selected from the Institute of Agriculture and Institute of Engineering. Since there are four courses in each specialized field, the faculty members in the specialized fields of predictive informatics, resource and energy science, health and welfare science, and food and environmental science will be in charge. They are comprised of faculty members who have PhDs in agriculture, engineering or related fields and internationally recognised achievements in interdisciplinary fields. The curriculum will be operated by a TUAT faculty members, and organized based on the specialized fields of agriculture or engineering, so as to be able to work on the creation of advanced interdisciplinary fields that incorporate new information fields.
Admissions
Department of Advanced Interdisciplinary Science Master's Program will conduct a general entrance examination for graduates of the Faculty of Agriculture or Faculty of Engineering of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, as well as graduates of bachelor's programs from other universities. In addition, we will conduct a special selection for working adults who have experience in research activities at public research institutes and private companies, and a selection for international students, and accept a wide range of working adults and international students. Enrollment is in April and October.
